Regarding the Use of AI

DISCO is committed to the responsible use of AI in accordance with our AI policy, which upholds principles of human-centeredness, safety, and fairness. While using AI, DISCO ensures that all final decisions are subject to human judgment and enforces other similar measures in order to safeguard the reliability of our products’ quality, safety, etc. and simultaneously make the most of AI.

AI Policy

DISCO CORPORATION and the DISCO Group (hereinafter referred to as “DISCO”) is committed to the responsible use of AI based on the following principles.

1.Basic Philosophy

DISCO aims to create new business opportunities and realize operational efficiency through the use of AI technology, pursuing the potential of said technology to the fullest extent. At the same time, DISCO is committed to sincerely addressing the challenges inherent to AI, such as in relation to ethics, safety, and transparency. As such, DISCO not only recognizes the risks and responsibilities surrounding AI, but also complies with the relevant laws and regulations in all countries and regions where DISCO conducts business, and strives to ensure the appropriate use of AI in accordance with this policy.

2.Scope

This policy applies to executives of DISCO (referring to DISCO CORPORATION and the DISCO Group companies) as well as those who are employed by DISCO (hereinafter collectively referred to as “DISCO Personnel”).

3.Governance

When establishing or revising this policy, the Executive Officer who holds the role of Chief Information Officer will make a proposal and, after discussing said proposal with the Executive Committee consisting of Executive Officers, obtain approval from the Board of Directors. Additionally, in order to adapt to new social demands and changes in the business environment, this policy will be reviewed on a regular basis and revised as necessary.

4.Principles of Ethical AI

(1)Human-Centered
DISCO positions AI as a technology that expands people’s capabilities, supports the enrichment of lives, and helps drive contributions to society. In the use of AI, DISCO always respects human dignity and autonomy, as well as all internationally recognized human rights.

(2)Safety
DISCO thoroughly analyzes the risks surrounding the use of AI and takes the necessary measures against said risks. Additionally, in order to prevent any harm to human life, body, property, etc., DISCO endeavors to realize the safe and trustworthy use of AI through its proper use.

(3)Fairness
DISCO recognizes the need to safeguard fairness and respect diversity in the development, provision, and use of AI. In order to prevent unjust discrimination and prejudice toward specific individuals or groups on the basis of race, gender, nationality, age, beliefs, etc. through the development, provision, and use of AI, DISCO recognizes the potential biases inherent to AI and strives to eliminate said biases from the development and usage processes. Moreover, when using AI, DISCO gives due consideration to said biases by involving human judgment in AI outputs and undertaking other similar measures.

(4)Privacy Protection
DISCO views privacy protection as one of the most crucial challenges in the development, provision, and use of AI. In order to minimize privacy risks, DISCO avoids unnecessary data collection, anonymizes data, and undertakes other appropriate measures, while also complying with all relevant laws and regulations.

(5)Security Assurance
DISCO aims for the consistently safe and secure use of AI, while also maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of AI systems. Additionally, in order to minimize security risks, DISCO works to build mechanisms that protect against threats such as cyberattacks and stays informed of the latest security risks. Furthermore, with regards to the use of AI by DISCO Personnel in business activities, Personnel are, in principle, prohibited from entering any customer’s confidential information or personally identifiable information into external AI systems and services.

(6)Transparency and Accountability
DISCO records and stores logs, such as those concerning the AI training process, to the extent that is technologically possible and also strives to secure the verifiability of and, to a reasonable extent, accountability for AI use. In addition, DISCO endeavors to share information with stakeholders regarding the fact of AI use and the handling of data in an appropriate manner.

(7)Respect for Intellectual Property Rights
DISCO respects all intellectual property rights and other rights related to AI. When handling AI training data and outputs, DISCO will work to gain a full understanding of the rules of intellectual property, including those related to copyright, and undertake measures to prevent the violation of the aforementioned rights, such as conducting investigations into existing copyrighted material when necessary. In addition, DISCO takes the appropriate measures to protect as intellectual property any AI-related outcomes and models created by DISCO, and secures the legitimate rights to said outcomes and models.

(8)Education and Literacy
DISCO strives to ensure all DISCO Personnel are made thoroughly aware of this policy and to provide education to improve DISCO Personnel’s AI literacy.
